Bridge Art

Yesterday, we took a Seine river cruise, a pleasant way to spend an hour. One of the things it highlights is how much art Paris has on the sides of its bridges, visible primarily to people who are on the river. I took a bunch of pictures. Sainte Chapelle

On Tuesday we went to Sainte Chapelle (the Holy Chapel), built by St. Louis, king Louis IX of France, who built it to house several relics, including a portion of the crown of thorns, now housed at Notre Dame.

What can I say? Taking pictures of a church that’s mostly stained glass is kind of difficult, but I gave it a shot.

Musée d’Orsay and the Tour de France

On Saturday, we went to the Musée d’Orsay, which is primarily known for their collection of impressionist paintings. This is not an artistic style which I am necessarily very fond of, but the rest of my family is.

On payback Sunday, I dragged the family out in the pouring rain to watch the Tour de France. Which would have been more pleasant if it hadn’t been pouring rain. But the Tour de France was one of my favorite sporing events as a kid, and I wasn’t going to be in Paris and not see it.

Notre Dame

Today we went to Notre Dame Cathedral, where we saw both the church and the Treasures of Notre Dame, which is a separate collection of primarily sacred items from the history of the cathedral and of Paris. I didn’t take many pictures, and I don’t see much need to post pictures. If you want to see what Notre Dame looks like, you can look for pictures yourself.
