Yes! As it happens, being ridiculously tired last night and going to bed just slightly on the early side of normal worked. I don’t particularly feel any jet lag. Anyway, today was day one in Paris.

Today began with a run through the Jardin des Plantes. It’s a very nice place to run.

With the rest of the family we headed out to Rue Mouffetard (aka La Mouffe) to look for lunch. We found a pie shop where we could get a good-sized slice of quiche, small green salad, and a drink for I think about 6 Euros. And it was excellent! There are some very good deals in Paris, even though it’s not a particularly cheap city overall.

This afternoon we gave the girls a few options, and they chose to walk to the Seine. First we passed the Pantheon, originally built as the church of Ste. Genevieve, patroness of Paris, but reworked after the revolution as a kind of secular holy site.

As it happens, I got a very nice posed shot of my daughters in front of the Pantheon, but this picture is just way more fabulous.

We kept on walking down to the Seine where we crossed over to Île de la Cité, took a glance at the facade of the cathedral and hung out for a little while in the square. Then we walked down to the river and walked along the river to Pont Neuf.

After wandering around a bit more, we walked over to St. Germain and had dinner at a very pleasant place on a quiet alley – probably not as far out of the tourist district as we’d have wanted, but good all the same.
